Professional Engine Building

 

We have been building engines to either restore them or with performance upgrades to increase their power for over 40 years.

On a daily basis we are building engines for everything from Classics Car enthusiasts through to High Performance and heavily modified engines.

We are often tasked with sorting out running problems on engines that have been rebuilt elsewhere, the things we find are often mind blowing and frequently surprise us. Often receiving cars that have done the rounds of "specialists" who cant find the cause of the problem or lack of power, we usually have a good idea of the problem as we hear the car arrive outside our workshop! This is where our experience and expertise really come into their own.

Surprisingly we are often asked to Tune or Remap vehicles that have had engine rebuilds or performance parts fitted by other workshops who were unable to tune the cars. 

It would seem that our proven ability to build engines AND tune or remap cars is a rare skill or talent these days.

We have the skills and tools to complete rebuilds to an exceptionally high standard, hardly surprising when you learn that specialist tools like our Thomas Mercer Bore Gauge, an industry standard tool for measuring and checking cylinder bores was actually built by Eric who builds our engines, during his engineering apprenticing at Thomas Mercer.

  

The Full Package

We are able to rebuild your engine from start to finish, Standard, Performance or whatever you want, its your car after all.

We have our own machine shop with a Lathe, Valve Grinder, Valve Seat Cutters, and all manner of machine tools and equipment, especially measuring equipment that allows us to measure and check all the way through the engine building process. We even have very specialist Dynamic Balancing equipment to detect and balance all rotating parts as well as Pistons, Connecting Rods etc. 

We have the ability, and its often used to determine the specification of parts such as camshafts, we are able to determine the lift, timing and duration of any camshaft, very useful when a previous owner had a rebuild and doesn't know what specification of parts have been used.

We have the expertise to build engines from modern 3 cylinders through to the big engines American V8's such as the 1968 Mustang that is being built in our workshop as this page is being updated. 

Fabrication is another skill-set that we have on hand and will be used to fabricate a cold air intake for the Porsche 964 below.

We have the kind of experience that just doesnt exist these days, Apprentice served engineers that have worked on everything from a Mini to an Aston Martin V8, a Jaguar V12 and modern 4, V6 and V8 engines through to Rolls Royce Helicopter engines. Remember we can strip it down, inspect it, machine it, and build it all with the very best equipment and skills. Once built we can tune or calibrate the engine on our in-house 4x4 Rolling Road Dyno, often with Live or Real-Time calibration even on OEM ECU's we can also calibrate After Market ECU's with throttle bodies and all manner of modifications on our dyno too. If you have a classic car we can tune your Carburettors too, no matter how many there are.
